How It Works
If this sounds like something you're interested in, there's a few things we need to know before we can start the application process:

All of the above are essential to your application, if you have a TEFL qualification already, great! However, if you do not have one, don't panic. As part of our 'Teach English in Hong Kong' programme you will complete an online TEFL course before you depart. For anyone in their last year of university and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the potential work load, the course is short and simple, It will take you no more than three week to complete.

The Fewer Things asks all successful 'Teach English in Hong Kong' applicants to pay an introductory programme fee of £450 which is paid in one go to start your TEFL Course and overall process.

What's Included in the Programme Fee?

Already have a TEFL?
Please tell us if you are already qualified, we can fast track your application and the support fee will be considerably lower. If you're an experienced and already qualified teacher we can connect you with some higher paying positions. Applicants can also benefit from getting part or full reimbursement for their TEFL course. For your TEFL certificate to be accepted by employers in Hong Kong it must be for a minimum of 120 hours and the certificate must not read the words 'online' anywhere.
Housing in Hong Kong
The housing market in Hong Kong is competitive and rent can higher than most other cities and regions in Asia.
You'll be supported by the local team in finding suitable accommodation and TFT will provide you with an array of resources in the form of our comprehensive housing guide spefically for Hong Kong and new people to the city.
It is is common in Hong Kong to pay a months deposit and a months rent upfront (2 months rent upfront could also be a request from the landlord). Applicants should be prepared to budget in the region of £1200/$1500 to cover this.
Other financials
Other financial aspects have to be taken in to account when accepting your offer onto the programme such as initial visa, flight and insurance costs along with spending money and inital rent. Luckily in Hong Kong there is no lengthy and costly document authentication process and the visa cost is low. The main costs are for flights and inital startup cost once you arrive.
Applicants should budget to take around £3000/$3500 minimum with them to Hong Kong.
The application process over all will take around 6-8 months or longer depending on when you apply, so there is plenty of time to save and the cost will be spread out over a long period.
Friends & Couples
What better way to come on a crazy adventure to Hong Kong than signing up with your other half or group of friends, please let us know when applying if you are part of a group or couple.
We can place you together and you can start you can source an apartment to be able to live together and share the cost of rent. Please be sure to send in your applications together and we can have a group call to make the plan for your new TEFL adventure.
Cost of Living
The cost of living in Hong Kong is on the higher end compared to mainland China and often requires applicants to be more budget conscious month to month.
